  • This spotlight exhibit, focused on Reggae music history, explores the musical legacies of artists whose contributions help establish Jamaica as a 
  • “Live Reggae Music Capital of the World”. 
  • The exhibit will include rare photographs, biographies, historic posters, recordings, and live music videos. 
  • Display cases will feature items from our Reggae Ambassadors, plus collections from Reggae communities worldwide.

  • Bob Marley has 11 legitimate children to several woman and 2 illegitimate children not registered on the Marley Website. This is amazing how the women put up with it, he was sleeping with other woman whilst married. But this is only looked down on in western culture. Rastas believe in free love.

  • Bob Marley managed to get the apposing political candidates (PNP + JLP) in 1978 to get on stage during the one love peace concert and shake hands. 
  • The richest living reggae artist alive is Shaggy who is worth $22 Million. This is a big surprise as I wouldn't of had him down as my number 1 reggae artists. But I suppose he did sell out and make pop tunes.
  • If Bob Marley was still alive he would be worth $130 Million. This is an incredible fact, Bob was so influential that even after his death he inspires millions. His net worth is more than the top 10 richest living artists combined.




  • Rege-Rege. It is believed that the word “reggae” comes from a Jamaican slang term “rege-rege,” which means “ragged” or “raggedy” because it is a mix of other styles sewn together.Did you know these five facts about Reggae?

  1. February was selected to commemorate Reggae Month as both the King (Bob Marley) and the Prince (Dennis Brown) of Reggae were born during the month. The first Reggae Month was celebrated in 2010.
  2. Reggae originated in downtown Kingston, where the major studios like Studio One and Treasure Isle were located. Think of any major name in Reggae’s history and, ten to one, they were either born, raised or got their big break in a downtown Kingston community – Bob and The Wailers, the I-Three (Rita Marley, Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffith), Dennis Brown, John Holt, Bob Andy, Clement ‘Sir Coxsone’ Dodd and many more.
  3. Dennis Brown, hailed as the Crown Prince of Reggae, released some 84 studio albums, seven live productions and countless singles over the course of his 30-year career. Talk about prolific!
  4. Despite his iconic status, Bob Marley never won a Grammy award – the Best Reggae Recording category was added in 1984, three years after his death.
  5. The first Reggae Grammy was won by Black Uhuru for the album Anthem.
